When founded by Harry J. Butler, Sr. in 1960, the sole focus of the company was single family subdivision development including site acquisition, engineering and planning, as well as securing all governmental approvals and establishing all site development infrastructure (i.e., clearing, grading, utilities, paving, etc.). Upon his father’s death in 1970, Harry J. Butler, Jr. assumed control of the company and moved its headquarters to Atlanta, Georgia. Projects that have been developed, owned and managed by Butler Properties since that time are valued in excess of $400 million, including over 3,500 apartment units, over 1 million SF of class A office space, and approximately 1.27 million SF of single tenant retail and multi-tenant shopping centers. Harry J. Butler, Jr. is now the Chairman of the Butler Properties group of companies. His son, Travis A. Butler, is the President of Butler Properties & Development, based in Atlanta, GA.
In July 2009, Butler Properties & Development and Lubert-Adler Real Estate Funds joined forces in an equity partnership arrangement.
